Artificial Grass Carpet Case Study: Supplier Identification and Analysis

This case study explores the identification and analysis of potential suppliers for semi-finished artificial grass carpets. We assessed a total demand value of €939,800 for three product items, with import duties ranging from 0% to 8%, depending on the country of origin. 

Product Analysis: The study aimed to source three types of artificial grass carpets:  

  1. Item 1: Comprised of polyethylene with a yarn count of 5,000 dTex and a pile height of 18mm. The total cost for 60,000 m² was €237,600 at a unit price of €3.96/m².  
  2. Item 2: Also made of polyethylene, but with a yarn count of 10,000 dTex and a pile height of 20mm. The total cost for 60,000 m² was €406,200 at a unit price of €6.77/m².  
  3. Item 3: This product contained a mix of polyethylene and polyamide, with yarn counts of 6,000 and 8,000 dTex and a pile height of 20mm. The total cost for 40,000 m² was €296,000 at a unit price of €7.40/m².  

Supplier Identification: A comprehensive search identified 129 suppliers.  

  • China: 95 suppliers  
  • Australia: 10 suppliers  
  • Turkey: 11 suppliers  
  • India: 14 suppliers  

We sent RFI/RFQ invitations to 56 suppliers in China, 8 in Australia, and 7 in Turkey. We received responses from 29 suppliers, comprising 26 from China, 2 from Turkey, and 1 from Australia. 

Evaluation and Recommendations: The evaluation process recommended nine top suppliers for further negotiations. They showed potential savings as follows:  

  • Item 1: Up to 44%
  • Item 2: Up to 40%
  • Item 3: Up to 42%  

This case study showcases a thorough evaluation process that identified the best potential suppliers for artificial grass carpets, offering significant cost savings and robust supplier capabilities.
